So we are finally done. I have to say that I really enjoyed this project. I learned a great deal, I made some friends and I feel we succeeded in what we set out to do. Of course I think that there is massive room for improvement on our project but that is the beauty of this project it is a never ending content aggregate.

A thing I learned a lot about that I didn’t know before is web building, even though we used wordpress as our site manager(I really was hoping someone knew how to build websites and then I could learn off of them) Darryl showed me some cool stuff I had no clue about.

Another thing that really opened my eyes while working on this project is different styles of filming, editing and playing with what you have to make it interesting. I watched a documentary where the camera was moving the whole time, it really bugged me but then it kind of worked at times, so I tried it with Katie and I think it still bugs me but it sure was fun to explore.

I also learned how hard it is to rely on people, I really wish I could just bark orders and people would listen, then again everyone would probably dislike me. I learned how to let things go although that I don’t think is something I will try to take with me. I would have liked to have complete control over my video and everything, but I didn’t have time and felt like I could delegate it to others.
Regrets include the botched hour long interview with Ron and Bill, somehow radio frequencies ate up our wireless microphones rendering the audio useless.
Cheers for my team – Spencer made an awesome logo and got a couple interviews and in the end made a huge contribution contradictory to my thoughts about his work ethic in the beginning. Signe contributed time and effort including bad ass sweatshirts and a drawing from her friend. Darryl was amazingly speedy in getting everything up and connected and running I thought that would be our biggest feat and Darryl turned it into a mere twenty minutes. Me I worked my ass off finding a couple articles writing the front page story and editing a couple videos and shooting three or four.
Jeers – I really wish we could have had people contribute to our site that was my biggest failure, I now know how much you really have to put yourself out there to get noticed, but I also blame the apathetic people around this campus who want nothing more than a free ride from mom and dad while they suckle on the teet of banality.

I’m pissed, but it’s my fault. I labeled the folder I dropped into the NMC301 server, “301″ (stupid, I know), and understandably other groups dropped there files into my stupidly named folder. This somehow managed to override my files and I lost a whole interview. Luckily I still have the tape, but that just means more time spent doing crap that I’ve already done.

Other than that vids are going well. I feel Darryl and I are the only two putting in a mass amount of effort, but Spencer just shot an interview and is creating a logo which is sweet and so that’s good. Signe showed promise in the beginning, but now I’m getting bummed. One of our interviews audio is completely screwed due to radio frequency but I feel we can get around it, too bad it was a pretty interesting vid.

I hope we can pull together and finish this site in a fashion that will appease my ambition.

Spencer is doing good work. I’ve shot some footy I need to edit, tagged and changed up our networking sites. I’m about to post on our website and I’m working on a paper for our website. Darryl pretty much got all the sites running and now Mr. Lai, Spencer and I are going to be shooting interviews on Wed. with Loges and Seymour.
One thing I want to get out of this site is outside collaboration, which is easier said than done, but that is a focus that we need to head into before the project is due.

We Love You So A cool blog I will be following.

I am excited for the new Spike Jonze film Where The Wild Things Are and in my stimulation I stumbled upon this splendid short film DVD magazine Wholphin.
I then found a cool blog about Wholphin and The Cinefamily getting together to showcase Wholphin No. 8 at The Silent Movie Theatre in LA. This is a rad concept that we should support in Corvallis by talking with the owner of Darkside Cinema.

It would be nice to see this town’s college students become less apathetic and get involved with life and arts instead of partying, drinking, sex and looking like everyone else.

Shorts and experimental need a breath outside of galleries and festivals, Hollywood shall not rule all of filmdom.

Here is one of the shorts showcased!

Spike Jonze blogs on We Love You So(my new favorite site). He posted a really cool video people need to see.

I think that this is a really cool concept, I just hope that they will have boards in sizes outside of tiny tech trick feet.

Check out this site for awesome aifare and hotel deals. I am definitely perusing this site as much as possible.
Time to get the hell outta Corvallis, Oregon, and lose myself in a foreign country.
As an end note I find it crazy how they blog and are on all the social networking sites. It’s becoming somewhat of a necessity isn’t it?
I find that draining but, whatever.

We talked, we linked, we wrote, we scheduled. Darryl is a baller. Signe is making an effort. I am tired and busy but trying to make a contribution through filming initial interviews. I don’t want Matt in my group. Spencer needs to prove himself soon or I am not going to work with him. It’s a banzai. This week will determine the rest of the project.

A Bloggers’ Code of Ethics cyberjournalist.net

The first article is about a code of ethics for bloggers. I believe that public figures or people in general should not be slandered or flamed by malicious rumors unless done in a way that lets the reader know that it is a false story. Other than that I completely disagree with a code of ethics for bloggers or internet writing for that matter.

I have stated before that the internet is the Wild West and I still believe this. I feel the amazing anonymity of the internet is what lets people show their true colors. Maybe they downplay their true emotions in public whether it is their racist afflictions, their true stance on gay rights or the fact that they fucking hate the US. What the internet enables everyone to do is voice their true feelings without giving up their identity and/or without fear of repercussions.

While I do believe that journalism has its place on the internet I don’t feel that all bloggers should be held to journalistic standards.

MUgger sHoTs?

Article = Journalistic integrity in mugshots?

Who cares? Bipeds want to look at mug shots. Show ‘em. Give the mouth breathers what they want. People like to look at bloopers, scat porn, G.G. Allin, and Gwar, big deal. Mug shots definitely aren’t journalism unless you suck on licorice while digesting news from some filthy pig that has nothing to talk about but celebrity rumors. Mug shots will be mug shots and I’ll still not care.

Zappa is awesome! Just as a side note.

This is a crazy story I came across about the murder of an environmental activist in Guatemala. Nothing to say about the article except that you should read it. My personal thoughts: somebody such as an Industrial Hustler paid some tough asshole to shoot him. The article talks about it being due to his writing in a central the Central American Diary, but doesn’t say who. I think a corporate pimp hired a nobody. Let’s hope they catch the real guy not the trigger puller. Obviously I want them to catch the gunman but in the real scheme of things the one who pulled the trigger isn’t the one to be concerned with.

“Biggitty bam and the stage is rubble” – Jay, Mallrats

My group as of now is Darryl, Signe and myself. We have set up our structre of social networking sites along with our own sight and we have shot an into video as to what we are trying to accompish with our open forum website. www.netScruple.com – not yet running

One skeptical group member was at his brothers wedding. Understandable.

The other? Who knows? I’m not really dwelling on what other people are doing, so much as, what the people involved are getting done.

Darryl=Baller,  Signe=Spirited and willing,  Me=Hopeful+Optimistic.

The ball is rollin’ we just have to watch out for the gum spots.

Broadband Access? by Anne Broache Cnet.com

Here we have a debate about the broadband access ratings. It is funny how these ratings go up and down depending on who is funding or doing the research. Think about how much more support one proponent of a tiered internet system obtains through our seemingly horrible infrastructure.

What’s the truth?

Well you won’t find out here. I strictly comment on other people’s property giving tiny insight. This just lets you know I read and care. I personally think everyone should have access, while those poor telecom companies could invest for the good of the people instead of the bottom dollar.

Even if you don’t agree with this petition you should make yourself aware of what’s happening with your internet.

There are too many internet Hams and people who love the way the internet works right now to let it be in the hands of Telecom Conglomerates.

1st Article – 45365 Review Posted in News, Reviews on March 24th, 2009 by JayC

This is an uninteresting review that touches on interesting topics about a seemingly awesome documentary. One thing this review did for me was point out something really cool I have not thought about before. It made me realize that the deeper one digs into what appears to be a mundane topic they can find the extraordinary intrinsic themes and wonders of life. I find it beautiful that someone can transform one town’s daily life into a vivid experience of the human beings microcosm. Can’t wait to see this.

2nd Article – The Shark is Still Working Review Posted in News, Reviews on February 25th, 2009 by Sean

While I didn’t really want to review another article from the same site, I couldn’t help myself. This web site thedocumentaryblog.com is awesome. They review tons of new documentaries that you probably wouldn’t hear about until it became popular from a good film circuit run.
This review was about the making of Jaws. It is a new documentary put together by fans, which, in turn, makes it lengthy and pays close attention to detail. Universal picked it up but they haven’t announced any plans to release it.
What picked my bone for attention was this conflict between art and commerce. The hardcore fans want to see the film in whole no doubt, but maybe some not so hardcore would find it too long and, well, boring. This does not make a strong formula for profit in the opinion of Universal; hence they haven’t come close to releasing it. The filmmakers are taking it on circuit to get more publicity, and hopefully a concrete release date. I will be interested in following this.

3rd Article – Documentaries 101 The Basics About Documentary Films  By Jennifer Merin, About.com

As you can probably tell I’ve been on somewhat of a documentary kick this week. This article, while I found it interesting and amusing, didn’t tell me anything I wanted to know about starting a documentary film. It pointed out the basic business of writing an article truthfully. Documentaries, while they can be an ethical dilemma, are a journey into the soul of the subject. Documentaries are the vision of the filmmaker told through the pictures on camera. I agree that you can’t distort these pictures in a malignant way, but when you trust a filmmaker to do a documentary with your face and words in it, he has the right to put you in any light you show yourself. Even out of context, if it gets a message that is non-contradictory to the truth, I have to call fair game.

Well, well here we are again. I met up with my group on Sunday night to get a formal layout and a rough schedule.
I’m still unsure who’s in the group. As of right now Darryl, Signe, and I are on board. One other member showed up but he played on his phone throughout the whole meeting and didn’t seem to have any drive towards the project. I’m not really going to consider him on-board until he shows some type of drive, motivation or work.
We assigned homework to every member of the group to research our topic of net neutrality and write a paper outlining their opinion of net regulation.
I figure this is our week to research and by the end come up with a concrete schedule. Our website should be in rough format and interview schedules should be on the way. By the end of next week we should be narrowing down our goal/outcome we are looking for. Here it goes – five more weeks.
